French Evening Classes, 2019-20

 

These classes are held at 15 Molivers Lane, Bromham. They will start in September 2019 for a ten-week autumn term and will continue for 10 weeks in the winter term and then for a further 5 weeks in the summer term (so a total course length of 25 weeks).

Please note all courses are limited to a maximum of 8 participants and that full payment per term is required when booking.

French for Beginners

This course is for complete beginners - no prior knowledge is required. We will cover the language necessary for everyday situations in France (greetings, numbers, shopping, accommodation, directions, tourist information, travel etc.). The emphasis will be on developing speaking and listening skills in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere. You will need a copy of the course book Facon de Parler Book 1 with the accompanying CDs. 

Tuesdays 2000-2115, The autumn term will start Tuesday 24 September 2019 (half term Tuesday 22 October 2019), the winter term will start Tuesday 7 January 2020.(£100 for each of the 10-week autumn and winter terms, £50 for the 5-week summer term).

 

Improve your French

This course is for those who already know some French (perhaps from a beginners' course or even from schooldays!) for everyday situations such as shopping, restaurants etc. We will build on this knowledge to improve confidence, accuracy and vocabulary. You will need a copy of the coursebook Façon de Parler Book 1 (5th edition published by Hodder Education). The book is available with or without the accompanying CDs - these are optional but highly recommended. The textbook will be supplemented by additional material for further practice of listening, speaking and reading skills. 

Mondays 2000-2130, The autumn term will start on Monday 23 September, (half term will be Monday 21 October) the winter term will start Monday 6 January 2020,  (£110 for each of the 10-week autumn and winter terms, £55 for the 5-week summer term). The fees include all additional handouts.

 

Intermediate French Part 1

This course is for those who already know enough French to  manage everyday situations (shopping, hotels, directions etc.) and to be able to hold a simple conversation on topics such as travel, hobbies etc.. You should have a reasonable knowledge of the basics of French grammar. We will build on this knowledge to improve confidence, accuracy and vocabulary and the use of past and future tenses. You will need a copy of the coursebook Façon de Parler Book 2 (5th edition published by Hodder Education). The textbook will be supplemented by additional material for further practice of listening, speaking and reading skills. All handouts are included in the course fee.d by additional material for further practice of listening, speaking and reading skills.

This course is available on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

(£115 per term for each of the 10-week autumn and winter terms, £57.50 for the 5-week summer term). The course fee includes all additional handouts. 

Thursdays, 2000-2130, The autumn term will start Thursday 26 September 2019 (half term Thursday 24 October 2019),  the winter term will start Thursday 9 January 2020. (£115 per term for each of the 10-week autumn and winter terms, £57.50 for the 5-week summer term). The course fee includes all additional handouts. 

 

Intermediate French Part 2

This course follows on from Intermediate French level 1. To join this group you should be able to manage everyday travel situations and be able to hold a conversation on some general topics. You should also have have a reasonable knowledge of the present, perfect and future tenses (although we will revise) and be ready to move on to more advanced sentence structures. You will need a copy of the coursebook Façon de Parler Book 2 (5th edition published by Hodder Education). In this second part of the course we will be working through the second half of the textbook.  The textbook will be supplemented by additional material for further practice of listening, speaking and reading skills. All handouts are included in the course fee. 

Mondays 1815-1945. The autumn term will start on Monday 23 September 2019 (half term Monday 21 October, the winter term will start Monday 6 January 2020.(£115.00 per term for each of the 10-week autumn and winter terms, £57.50 for the 5-week summer term). The fees include all additional handouts. 

 

Speaking, Reading and Listening

For this course you should have a reasonable understanding of the correct use of present, past and future tenses and other grammar (we will revise more advanced aspects of grammar). There is no text book for this course and all materials will be provided. The aim of this course is to improve accuracy and confidence in conversation, to work on listening skills and to build vocabulary. We will work with a wide range of subjects and material for listening and reading comprehension and as a basis for conversation.

Thursdays 1815-1945, the autumn term will start Thursday 26 September 2019 (half term Thursday 24 October 2019), the winter term will start Thursday 9 January 2020. (£120 per term for the 10-week autumn and winter terms, £60.00 for the 5-week summer term.
